What is this weird and paranoia inducing website?

So today I found a website www.eon8.com that was on the board it was posted proclaimed "We are all going to die - SERIOUSLY!"

Do I believe this? Hell I don't know! I'm know for being paranoid and a general worrier usually so why should this be so different? After working for a forward thinnking arts organisation and being an avid online gamer I am familiar with the idea of ARG's (Alternate Reality Game's).

I propose that this blog be used to try and come up with an explanation as to what this website is all about. As of now the countdown is at 4 and a bit days.

In this big wide world of the web there has to be someone out there with the smarts to hack into this site and find out what's going on. I myself am now toying with the idea of taking up a course that specifically deals with web coding etc so I can learn how to hack into sites such as this!! (Can you tell this is frustrating me!!)

What worries me mostly is that there is not much speculation about this site. Does that mean that it really is nothing to worry about and is just a publicity stunt or ARG? or does it mean something more sinister like someone is trying to hush people up?
Theories include the ridiculous to the plausible and I am most inclined to believe that the map, being Frapper style, is linked to the IP addresses when the site gets a hit.

I leave this to you all then - help me find out whats going on before the countdown reaches 0:00. Let's beat these unhackable hackers at their own game.

The challenge is in your hands...

Thanks for that - I think your right about if they planned to do something major they probably wouldn't publish a website about it plus you would think if they were that stupid they would want a lot of media attention and as yet barely anyone is talking about it. I think it's either someones idea of a sick joke or it's a promotion for something - Eon pops up a lot if you Google it and it's also featured in James Bond: Casino Royale so who knows - it's a very odd title to choose otherwise.

Err... not that it's a terrorist thing, but i'm just saying, they're human too.

Good guy or bad guy, the net is the most effective way to communicate over long distances with multiple people now adays.

The key to solving this "mystery" before the time is up is finding the origin of the source. Find out who found the site and started spreading word about it and you probably have your culprit if it's a hoax.

With that said, it's definitely a hoax because of one factor.

I can buy there being sites with encrypted messages for cells across the world (speaking in a terroristic sense), what I can NOT buy however is having a count-down gif on the main page. There's no reason why the site itself couldn't have a password on it and allow only "members" to enter (speaking of the main page with the gif).

What this means is that the creator WANTS you to see the count-down, which doesn't coincide with the image of intelligent encryptions and security measures.
